Monday - Check chapter 11 questions from over the weekend. DO NOW: Is justice always just? Do crimes get punished too severely or not severely enough? Discuss. Analysis of Malachi's death. Was Randy's "justice" for the highwaymen just? Was it the right thing to do? Will it stop future trouble? Debate. Movie, if time.
Tuesday - Read for the first fifteen minutes of class. REMEMBER: The end of the book, along with the questions, is due on Friday! Close look at the August food troubles, finding peace on the river, and the school re-opening. Journal entries in between each. Movie for the remainder of class. Wednesday/Thursday - Reading at the beginning of class. How has Fort Repose changed? Close reading of pages 310-314. What is Pat Frank trying to say in these pages? How does he communicate his political views without alienating his audience? Are these issues that we still need to address today? Movie, if time. Friday - Wrap up the end of the book. Check reading question assignment. Article of the week: "Doomsday Clock" from The Atlantic. Students will be given project options Monday for the concluding portion of the unit.
