Monday - Collect article of the week from over the weekend. Pass out vocabulary packet and review associative tool list. DO NOW on "The Superman." Begin reading the short story in groups and continue with our "Say Something" close reading strategy.
HW - Finish reading/annotating short story.
Tuesday - Finish reading "The Superman." Employ "Somebody Wants But So" summarization/interpretation strategy. Get into groups and discuss writing activity on testimony for George from "The Superman."
HW - Writing assignment in George Summers' point-of-view.
Wednesday/Thursday - Students will give their testimonies and HW will be collected. We will begin a "rites of passage" unit with the short story, "Through the Tunnel." First, the students will "brain dump" all different instances of rites of passages that they have seen and/or been through on the board. Note taking on the three different phases of a rite of passage. Students will give personal experiences on the three different phases and discuss. Once the students have a solid foundation of a rite of passage, we will begin reading "Through the Tunnel."
HW - Finish reading/annotating "Through the Tunnel."
Friday - Today classes are shorter due to professional development/half-day. DO NOW on short story. Students will answer questions based on their reading of "Through the Tunnel." After the students have answered the questions, we will answer questions as a class.
