Tuesday/Wednesday - Pass out literary elements notes and have students fill out the worksheet as we go through a PowerPoint. Discuss literary elements and answer any questions. These literary elements will count as the students' first vocabulary words. Annotation review with examples.
HW - Vocab quiz will be Monday, 9/12. Start studying!
Thursday, Sep. 8 - Do Now on an essential question from our first short story, "A $20 Bill." Read the short story as a class. Using our notes from the previous class, the students will answer close reading questions that will reinforce our work with literary elements. Partner work. Start discussing the story as a class.
HW - Re-read the short story and annotate in the margins. Finish up worksheet questions for homework.
Friday, Sep. 9 - Check homework. Begin our first "Article of the Week." Once or twice a month, the students will read a current event article, annotate it, look at the rhetorical devices used, answer questions, and have a discussion. The article and questions will be turned in at the end of class and graded as an in-class assignment.
HW - Study up for vocab quiz on Monday!
