Vocabulary work. Students will create their own sentences using the vocabulary words. Assign out parts and continue with our reading as a class.

Thursday - Looking at famous quotes from Romeo and Juliet. What questions do you have about the book? What do you hope to learn? Anticipation guide independent work. Face-to-face activity. Response questions. Begin reading. Friday - Prezi on the life of William Shakespeare with guided notes. Continue reading aloud and begin movie. Monday - Check end of book reading questions. Finish movie so the students will have completed notes for their test on Thursday. If the class finishes the movie, we will plot diagram the story.
Tuesday/Wednesday - PowerPoint and guided notes on the end of the book. This will help the students review for their test on Thursday. Play a Jeopardy book game for review. Finish movie, if needed. Test review/questions. Thursday - UNIT TEST on The Old Man and the Sea. ASSOCIATIVE TOOLS AND NOTES FROM THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS CAN BE USED ON THE TEST. Friday - Mrs. Kohs will be coming in to educate the students on Office365. Monday - DO NOW: At this point in the story, what do we know about Santiago? What attributes define him? Review pages 39-90 with quote analysis in groups. Share out. Continue watching The Pursuit of Happyness.
Tuesday/Wednesday - Take out stories for an open book QUIZ! When finished, work on end of book questions and read. Continue taking notes while watching The Pursuit of Happyness. Thursday - Read for first 10 minutes of class. DO NOW: What problems have come up for Chris? Have there been any solutions? Give an example. Find and cite quotations from The Old Man and the Sea that show how Hemingway illustrates problems and solutions with Santiago within the story. Share out. Movie. END OF BOOK, WITH READING QUESTIONS, DUE TOMORROW! Friday - Finish watching The Pursuit of Happyness and complete viewing assignment. The movie will appear on the end of the unit assessment next week. The students will be able to use their movie viewing guide on the assessment. |
