Monday - Students will hand in their reading questions from over the weekend. Review Act I. What are the five things in your life that are most important to you? 5 slips of paper activity. Read with time remaining.
Tuesday/Wednesday - DO NOW: How are the actions and speech of the characters in the play different from their true thoughts and feelings? Give an example. Character chart work for different characters in the play. Fill out charts on the board. Introduce Tic-Tac-Toe assignment. Read and watch movie. Thursday - I not be in class today due to professional development. The substitute teacher will have the students complete the work that I will leave for them. First, the students will complete a journal entry in their journals. Next, the students will read independently for twenty minutes. After reading, the students will continue working on their Tic-Tac-Toe assignment. The students will also have their reading questions to continue working on. Friday - DO NOW. Assign out reading parts and perform as a class. Work on reading questions/Tic-Tac-Toe assignments. Movie.

Tuesday - Vocabulary quiz for D period. In small groups, the students will get together and read while applying our "Say Something" reading strategy. Come back together and read as a group. Movie, if time. Wednesday - The students will be given a printed out version of the play to read over break. The students should be prepared for a quiz on the reading after break. Tuesday - DO NOW: Brainstorm as many elements of a play that you can. Write thoughts/elements on the board. How is a play different from a movie? Importance of the actual stage/setting of a play. Visual/spatial drawing activity of the stage. Share out. Read, if time. Wednesday/Thursday - What triggers Helen's outbursts? Can you relate at all to how she is feeling? Start working with characterization chart. Continue reading and assign parts to the play. Begin watching movie, if time allows. Friday - Today we will create the letter that Captain Keller sends to the "Yankee" doctor, Anagnos. Why is Captain Keller so against sending his daughter up north for help? Students will have time to work on their letter during class time, but will have to finish for homework. Monday - Begin The Miracle Worker unit. DO NOW: Would it be harder to live without sight or hearing? Explain your reasoning. In-class activity that corresponds with the DO NOW. Give background information on Helen Keller. Exit slip: If you couldn't communicate with those around you, what feelings may you have to deal with?
Tuesday - NO SCHOOL. Wednesday - Book walk. What are the differences between a novel and a play? Begin reading Act I. Start watching movie. Thursday - Jigsaw activity on background information on Helen Keller, blindness, Radcliffe College, and Tuscumbia, Alabama. Share out. Friday - NO SCHOOL for Veteran's Day. |
